The Eagles defeated St. Edwards in the quarterfinals 25-5 to earn a record ninth straight trip to the semi-finals. Then, in the semifinals, the Eagles defeated Penn 12-5, advancing to the National Championship game for the fifth straight year.
Here’s what Flo Rugby had to say about the final game:
“The single-school final of the Boys High School Rugby Championship lived up to its billing, providing drama, excitement, and a touch of poignancy as Jesuit knocked off defending champion Gonzaga 21-13 in Kansas City, MO, on Saturday to take back the title the Eagles have held the last three seasons.”
And here’s what Coach Baggetta wrote on Facebook after the team’s loss:
“Extremely proud of this Gonzaga Rugby team – a young team who never quit and believed in each other even when others did not. They battled all the way to the end and came up just short. Has been one of my most fulfilling seasons as a coach seeing the growth of the team and individuals as both rugby players and young men for others. They truly gave it all they had!”
