@GZbaseball Opens Season – Beats Maret

The varsity baseball Eagles opened the season vs Maret on March 9 and came away with an 11-5 win after a back-and-forth game. Gonzaga took the lead for good in the fifth inning. The game was tied at three with Eagles batting in the bottom of the fifth when Maret uncorked a wild pitch, scoring one run.  The Eagles would then score seven runs in the sixth inning. The big inning was thanks to a walk by James Delaney, a walk by William Bean, a wild pitch by Jacob Hardney, a double by Patrick Crockett, a double by Garrett Newsome, and a single by Will Dolson.

Will Thomas earned the win for the Eagles.  He pitched five innings, surrendering three runs, four hits, and striking out seven. Two relievers helped Gonzaga close out Maret. Hardney threw one inning.

Hardney and Kyle McKenzie each drove in two runs.
