The Gonzaga varsity basketball Eagles started the new year with a win at Ryken (74-69) on January 3 and a huge win over St. John’s (61-57) in front of a packed Carmody Center on January 5 with Eddie Scott ’17 out with a wrist injury. The day after the win over the Cadets, the Eagles traveled to Wheeling, WV for the annual Cancer Research Classic. On January 7, still without Eddie Scott, Coach Turner’s squad took on Georgia power Westlake, live on ESPN 3. Behind strong team play and hustle, the Eagles earned a big national win (76-73). After returning from West Virginia, the Eagles prepped for another big WCAC matchup, hosting McNamara on January 10. A dominant performance on Coach Myers Court improved Gonzaga’s record to 12-2 overall and 5-0 in league play. The next game is a 7:30pm tip on Monday, January 16 at Paul VI.

Before the new year, the team impressed the nation at the Les Schwab Invitational in Portland, Oregon, where they won three games and finished third, coming within four points of then #1 ranked Sierra Canyon (CA) in the semifinal.
