@GonzagaGolf’s M Barnes ’17 = 2016 WMGA Junior Golfer of the Year

Congratulations to Gonzaga Golf Senior Matt Barnes who has been named the Washington Metropolitan Golf Association Junior Golfer of the Year.

Selection is based on performance while competing in WMGA junior championships, performance in other local and regional championships, as well as support of the WMGA Junior Golf Program. While primarily performance based, this award also takes into account sportsmanship and conduct on and off the golf course.

Matt’s 2016 highlights included winning the Bobby Bowers Championship Boys 16-18 age division, a runner-up finish in the Middle Atlantic Junior Amateur, a ninth place finish at the Frank Emmet Schoolboy Championship, and representing the WMGA at the Williamson Cup Team Matches in New York. He also tied for low junior at the Middle Atlantic Amateur Championship.
