In a most thrilling weekend for Gonzaga Eagles in all four sports fall programs, the spirit of Gonzaga was on display from Saturday morning through Sunday evening. First in NW D.C. at Kenilworth Park, a Cross Country DCSAA championship was claimed. Next in Burtonsville, MD at Paint Branch High School, an epic Football win over St. John’s in the annual rivalry game to secure a home playoff game ensued. From there, in Germantown, MD at the Soccerplex, a WCAC Soccer championship was captured on a golden goal in the 93rd minute of play. Lastly, on Sunday in Haverford, PA a Water Polo Prep Eastern’ss Tournament Title was earned with a last second goal.

The Gonzaga cross country team won the DC State Athletic Association championship on November 5th. The Eagles were led by Harry Monroe ’17 and John Colucci ’18 who finished in first and second place, respectively. Three other Eagles finished in the top 15, while the “B” squad easily won the JV race with a perfect score of 15 points. Congratulations to the Eagle runners and coaches! The Gonzaga varsity football team won the 92nd Game of the Modern Era against St. John’s in front of about 8,000 fans on November 5th. After allowing the Cadets to take a 14-10 lead early in the second quarter, the Eagles took to the air scoring on two long pass plays to lead 24-14 at half. The Eagles would lead 38-21 going into the 4th. St. John’s scored twice, but Gonzaga responded with one final drive and score to make the final, 45-35. The Gonzaga varsity soccer team won the WCAC Championship with a thrilling 1-0 double-overtime victory against DeMatha on November 5th. After nearly 93 minutes of tense action, Ryan Teuschl ’18 curved the ball in off a free kick and R.J. Moore ’17 connected on a header just past the reach of DeMatha’s goalkeeper. The Gonzaga varsity water polo team won the Prep Eastern’s Tournament with a thrilling 9-8 victory over The Hill School on November 6th. The Eagles defeated McDonogh 10-8 in overtime the day before, and defeated Malvern Prep 12-6 earlier in the day to advance to the final. The winning goal came with just 3.8 seconds left on the clock.
