@GonzagaXC Takes DCXC Invitational Team Title

“The cross country team won the DCXC Invitational in Kenilworth Park on Saturday.  With 3 runners from each of the 4 grade-level championship races scoring, we tallied a meet-low 205 points.

Harry Monroe was our top finisher of the day, blazing 15:21 to cross the line 3rd place in the senior race.  Will McCann (21st) and Jack Beckham (22nd) earned medals and made us the top overall senior team in the race.

John Colucci led Gonzaga juniors, finishing 5th in 15:58.  John Travis (15th) and Andy Beckham (40th) were the other scorers.

In the sophomore race, Eagle runners included David Giannini (7th), Gavin Farley (12th) and Daniel Roginski (56th).  The freshmen were led by Cullen Capuano (3rd, 16:47), Gavin McElhennen (12th), and Luke Francese (59th).

Of course all 12 runners contributed to the victory, but special mention is earned by A Beckham, Roginski, and Francese, all of whom finished higher than projected and helped seal the victory by closing the gap to their teammates.

Gonzaga runners also raced in several “Varsity B” races, where Brian Gill and Michael Travis earned medals.

RunWashington has a nice write-up, including brief interviews with Monroe and Capuano and a photo of Colucci in the lead pack of the junior race:
