The US Olympic Swim Trials begin this Sunday, June 26th!
“We have four former Gonzaga swimmers participating!
Paul O’Hara ’13, now at Harvard, will be in the 50 free where, as of now, he’s seeded 106th. Paul plans to use a last chance meet to go for the 100 free and 100 fly cuts in June. Brennan Novak ’15, also at Harvard, has qualified in 2 events: 400 free (seeded 82nd) & the 1500 (95th).
We have 2 graduating seniors also in the mix. Jase Ashkin qualified forthe 100 back in exciting fashion on the last night of the NCSA Championships in Orlando, FL this past March. Swimming in a time trial all by himself, Ashkin responded to the cheers of the crowd to squeeze under the cut by 0.14 seconds. Jase’s seed: 159th as of now. Finally, Ryan Baker will also swim the 100 back, having qualified last summer at the NCSA Long Course Championships in Indianapolis. He is seeded 114th. The broken leg he suffered in December hindered Baker’s chances at also capturing the 50/100 free cuts, which he missed by just 0.3 and 0.5 seconds respectively.
We wish all four of our Gonzaga swimmers the best of luck in their pursuit of greatness in Omaha at the end of June.” -@GonzagaSwimDive
