@GZbaseball Advances to DCSAA Semifinal

The varsity Eagles will look to re-capture the DCSAA Championship after winning the program’s first title last spring in thrilling fashion.  This year’s run is off to a great start with the top-seeded Eagles defeating Georgetown Day in the quarterfinals 8-0.  The Eagles next game is Saturday (5/21) vs the Maret / Sidwell winner, 12pm at Nationals Stadium.  The Eagles hope advance to the championship game which will be played on Sunday (5/22), 4:30pm at Nats Academy. >>> Click here for the complete tournament bracket >>>

baseball box vs georgetown day - 5-18-16

An ace performance by Brendan Gibson led the Gonzaga Eagles Varsity to an 8-0 win in seven innings over Georgetown Day School on Wednesday at Nats Academy.

Gonzaga’s Gibson kept Georgetown Day School off the scoreboard for all seven innings he was on the rubber. He pitched a shutout, allowing no opposing players to cross the plate on two hits while ringing up nine.

The Eagles got the win thanks to eight hits, including four extra base hits. The Eagles scored three runs in the sixth on an RBI double by Kyle Reeser and a two-run single by Elijah Poole.

Kyle Reeser reached base two times in the game for the Eagles. He scored two runs and had one RBI.

The Eagles took the initial lead in the second, scoring one run on a sacrifice fly by Nick Lynch.  Gonzaga brought home one run in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Matt Flagg, plating Kyle Reeser.

The Eagles increased their lead with two runs in the fourth. A double by Peter Mulholland ignited the offense, scoring Poole. That was followed up by Kyle McKenzie’s single, plating Mulholland.
