The Gonzaga Eagles Varsity tops Northern HS in back-and-forth affair, 6-5
Yesterday on Senior Day, the varsity baseball Eagles and Northern HS traded the lead seven times on Tuesday, but the Eagles ended up on top with a 6-5 win in seven innings.
Gonzaga finally managed to grab the lead after a strong seventh inning. A fielder’s choice scored Justin Myers and gave the visiting Eagles the lead for good.
Gonzaga was led by a flawless day at the dish by Nick Escoto, who went 3-3 against Northern HS’ pitching. He singled in the first and second innings and doubled in the fourth inning.
Matt Flagg kept contact to a minimum, striking out three Northern HS batters. Flagg allowed no earned runs, four hits and two walks over five innings.
The bottom of the first saw the Gonzaga take an early lead, 3-0. The rally started when Amari Newman singled. A groundout by Nate Grisius then moved Newman from first to second. Nick Escoto singled, bringing home Newman. More runs came home for the Eagles when Escoto and Hardney scored on a two-run single by Peter Mulholland.
Gonzaga got a one-run boosts in each of the third, fourth and seventh. In the third, the Eagles scored on a groundout by Nick Lynch, plating Mulholland.

The Eagles are back in action today, Wednesday 5/4, in the final regular season game vs O’Connell, 6pm at Nats Academy. WCAC playoffs will begin on Saturday, May 7.
