With wins over Good Counsel (13-6) and DeMatha (11-7), the varsity lacrosse Eagles are now 4-0 in WCAC play. This week brings tough tests from Fordham Prep (NY) on Saturday at 10am and from conference foe St. Mary’s Ryken on Monday at 4pm, both on Buchanan Field.
On Friday, the day before the Good Counsel win, the Eagles had a “Great afternoon for the Eagles to support the fight against cystic fibrosis and take part in the 5K Great Strides Walk at UMD” [group picture is featured above].
In the wins over GC and DM, the Eagles were tested early. The Falcons scored first and hung tough only trailing 3-2 after the 1st quarter. DeMatha held a 5-4 lead over the Eagles at halftime – which could’ve been a two goal lead, but heavily recruited senior MF Avery Myers beat the buzzer for Gonzaga.
The Eagles dominated GC in the 2nd quarter and won going away. DM was within two goals late, before Gonzaga’s Brian Townsend scored with 2:16 left and Myers sealed the win with under a minute to play.
