The Gonzaga Eagles Varsity made the most of 5 hits in 3-2 victory over McNamara
The Gonzaga Eagles Varsity and McNamara each put runners in scoring position on Monday, but the Gonzaga Eagles Varsity capitalized on more RBI opportunities, pulling out a 3-2 win at Nats Academy.
McNamara had eight hits compared with the Gonzaga Eagles Varsity’s five, but McNamara stranded five runners on base.
Nate Grisius paced the Gonzaga Eagles Varsity at the plate. Grisius went 2-3, drove in one and scored two runs. He singled in the first inning and doubled in the third inning.
McNamara had no answer for Matt Flagg, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. McNamara managed just one hit off of Flagg, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out four during his two innings of work.
Campbell was charged with the loss. He lasted just 7 2/3 innings, walked two, struck out eight, and allowed three runs.
The bottom of the third saw the Gonzaga Eagles Varsity take an early lead, 2-0. Elijah Poole singled to ignite the Gonzaga Eagles Varsity’s offense, before Grisius doubled, plating Poole. The scoreboard lit up again for the Gonzaga Eagles Varsity when Grisius scored on an RBI double by Brendan Gibson.
Brendan Gibson threw six strong innings allowing two earned runs. The Eagles take on Bishop O’Connell this Thursday, April 14 at 430pm.
