On Saturday, March 12th, Gonzaga Crew dedicated its newest and most impressive shell in honor of the late Dr. John C. Warman ’57. After Brian Kilner ’16 opened with a prayer, Head Varsity Coach Mark Mandel thanked all in attendance and shared updates on the state of the crew program. He also explained the significance of the naming of Doc’s new shell: that it will forever embody “passion” and “dedication”.
Coach Mandel then invited Woods Connell ’17, one of Doc’s beloved students, to share some thoughts. Frank Warman ’61, Doc’s brother, addressed the crowd before leading everyone in a rendition of the “Star Spangled Banner” in honor of Doc. Rev. Ken Meehan, SJ christened the shell and Frank poured the champagne. Frank lead the crowd in one last cheer for Doc and the boys sung the alma mater to complete the event.
