@GonzagaSwimDive wins 6th Straight WMPSSDL Title

“What a way to capture that 6th consecutive WMPSSDL CHAMPIONSHIP πŸ‘‘! The Aqua Eagles dominated the meet, scoring 475 points to 2nd Place Prep’s 325. Good Counsel finished 3rd with 236.

In the big points races, the Gonz team of Ashkin, McNulty, Henneman & Cosgrove beat Prep to win the 200 medley relay in team record time for 40 points. Gonz also won the 200 free relay by a slim 0.34 margin with the team of Cosgrove, Shackley, Windus & Gomez, again over Prep. The 400 free team (Ashkin, Windus, Henneman & McNulty) took 2nd to a loaded Prep squad, getting outtouched by only 0.70. Our anchor, Devin McNulty, had literally just gotten out of the water from the 100 breast final, where he’d placed 3rd, and STILL did his lifetime best 100 free split on the relay!

In individual events, the team got big numbers in the 50 free from Gomez (8th place), Windus (3rd), Cosgrove (2nd) & McNulty (6th), garnering 57 points for the team, our highest in any non-relay event. It was our only swim in which all 4 guys raced in the A final.

In 200 free, Boyce & Redmond swam in the B final, while Shackley (8th) and Braviak (4th) were in the A, grabbing 32 points for the Eagles..
In the 200 IM, DeWitt (4th), Mudlaff (6th) and Gentry (8th) scored 39;
Mudlaff (4th), Ashkin (1st) & Henneman (6th) got 48 in the 100 fly. In the 100 free, Cosgrove (3rd), Windus (4th), Gomez (8) & Shackley, (9th, winning the B final), scored 51 pts.

In the distance event, the 500 free, Redmond (16th) and Braviak (2nd) gave the team 18 points.

In the 100 bk, Ashkin (winning his 2nd event of evening), DeWitt (3rd) and Henneman (5th) notched 50 pts.

Finally, in the final individual event of the night, the 100 breast, McNulty (3rd) and Gentry (7th) brought home 28 points.

Due to school cancelations on Thursday, the diving portion was moved to Sunday, and all 4 of our divers scored with Stokes taking the highest spot for the Eagles placing 2nd. Hannah (7th), Blomquist (12th) and Kirvan (13) rounded out the scoring for 38 big points.
Though it was mathematically impossible for any team on Sunday to surpass Gonzaga’s score from Saturday night, (due to the limit of 4 divers per team limit), the boys waited to celebrate the win when they officially picked up the Champions Cup at the conclusion of Diving. The four Captains, the four divers and a smattering of teammates who’d come to cheer on the divers gathered for the team photo with Coaches Klotz & Maloney.

The consistency of having at least 2 or 3 swimmers in the Big 8 is what enabled the Eagles to really pound this win home. This is what we need this weekend when we’ll have nearly a full complement of swimmers on board at Metros. (With the big man hoping to be back, it could be a really great boost for the team!)

By the way, T-SHIRTS are still available! We have small sizes left; if you weren’t able to pick one up, let us know! See above for the pics.” -@GonzagaSwimDive
