Zag 105 Gtown Prep 80 (Jan 9)
“On Saturday, the Purple Eagles took on a G’town Prep squad that was ready for battle. Suited up in their high-end racing suits, the Little Hoyas rose to the occasion winning 9 of the 12 events. However, our Eagles, tired from just having returned from an obliterating training trip and wearing their Gonzaga team briefs, the Eagles had the depth needed to secure the win,105-80, and maintain their undefeated (6-0) record on the season. This was the first time in a couple of years that Gonz beat Prep in a dual, so that alone was a huge accomplishment. The 3 events won by Zag swimmers were the 200 IM (where William Mudlaff and Grant DeWitt went 1-2); the 200 free relay (Jack Cosgrove, Ryan Windus, Oliver Shackley & Alex Gomez) and the 100 back, where Jase Ashkin and Grant DeWitt went 1-2. In most of the events, Gonzaga took 2nd, 3rd and 4th, (including diving!!) regularly scoring 9 points in nearly each event. That kind of depth is what wins meets.
We had a nice turnout and want to thank Danny May, Patrick Johannessen & the Morche boys, Connor & Griffin, all from the Class of 2015. Thanks to AD Joe Reyda and to all the parents who showed up as well, many of whom were on the pool deck working the meet, taking photos and cheering on the team.”
Zag 127 Bullis 34 / Zag 132 Maret 21 (Jan 13)
“On Wed, in the last meet before championship season starts, a double-dual vs Bullis & Maret, the Purple Eagles swam to overwhelming wins with scores of 127-34 (Bullis) &132-21 (Maret). The team is now preparing to capture the 1st of the 3 championships which make up ‘The Triple Crown’: the National Catholics. The prelim/final format meet will be held at Loyola University in Baltimore, Jan 23-24. It has been a long time since Gonzaga has won this meet and the boys are preparing with a vengeance. We wish the team all the best as they get ready for the big showdown next weekend! We hope to have as many fans in the stands as possible for this one!
A quick reminder: Senior Day, honoring our graduating seniors, many of whom have significantly contributed all four years to the incredible success of this team, has been moved to Tuesday, January 26, in a triple dual vs Sidwell, Flint Hill & Potomac Schools at Stone Ridge. Be there!#HailGonzaga!”
