@GonzagaSwimDive Completes Florida Training Trip

“Today’s ‪#‎Gswimdive‬ mid-week workout was a Herculean Task. Coach‪#‎JoshKlotz‬ began the morning with a long course workout, while Coach‪#‎AnitaOQuinn‬ had the divers on the boards in the wind. (Check out the water surface of the dive well. You can tell how windy it is!) This was followed by weights and dryland. Perhaps the boys had to know something was up…might there not be an afternoon workout? And then, the Coaches announced the surprise: the team was going to the Capital One Orange Bowl Beach Bash, a free concert on South Beach which started at 4pm, with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis (“Downtown”) and Imagine Dragons(“Radioactive”) as the headliners. What a perfect way to end a tough day!”

“HAPPY NEW YEAR from the ‪#‎Gswimdive‬ family! The last 36 hours have been jam-packed and there’s a lot you need to get caught up on-
The Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Imagine Dragons concert on South Beach on Wednesday night was amazing by all accounts. But they still had to rise early on New Year’s Eve morning for a long course workout. In acknowledgement of their continued hard work, the coaching staff rewarded the team with breakfast from Dunkin Donuts! Yay! Sugar!
With about 4 hours between workouts, their down time is usually spent napping or getting a little beachtime. They’re fortunate to have an incredibly beautiful beach on which to rest & recuperate.
The Chaperone/Coaches are enjoying their time on the trip and are thrilled that a huge majority of the guys are all on the same floor, making their chaperone duties a lot easier. (It’s giving them more time to catch movies on Netflicks since the boys are so well-behaved.)
For New Year’s Eve dinner, the gang had a 7:30pm reservation at Outback. It also was Senior Captain John Henneman’s birthday, so a cake was brought out and the restaurant erupted in song and cheers for John.
This New Year’s morning, the team went on a fan boat ride through the Everglades. There were alligator spottings and some good ole fashioned “gator wrassling”. (To my knowledge, none of the boys partook in that excitement!) This afternoon’s workout was all about racing. It was an intersquad meet-style practice. We hope to have photos from the “meet” to post later. Wishing you and your families all the best in the New Year. There are teammates out there who know that 2016 will be so much better than 2015. 💜”

“At the 2nd to last evening workout of the Miami trip, the boys suited up for a Purple vs White Intrasquad meet. In this heat, we had Captains John Henneman & Jase Ashkin in the middle lanes. While still waiting confirmation on the identities of the two outside swimmers, they were wearing dome caps, so they must have been speedy, for sure!
We also have the team shot in the closing light. Looks like a pretty awesome trip with fabulous memories to last a lifetime.
Welcome home, boys!”

“That’s it for the Gonzaga Swimming & Diving trip! Credit for photos & excursion info goes to Mr Tom Cosgrove, chaperone and Gonzaga man extraordinaire. Thanks too, to Nick Pugliese, Assistant Coach Patrick Maloney, Dive Coach Anita O’Quinn and to the Head Coach Josh Klotz for providing our boys with such a fantastic training environment which was tough, fun and educational too. Our team will be so much better for their experiences here this week. Well done! Hail Gonzaga Sports!”
