“A pretty large group of the #Gswimdive team are now down in North Miami Beach, FL on a training trip. To see photos of where they’re staying at theNewport Beachside Hotel and Resort and swimming at the Florida International University – Biscayne Bay Campus, click on those links.
From a team trip standpoint, so far, so good. One of the coolest things they’ve gotten to do in their short time there is to connect with the Gonzaga Hoops Basketball Team which is playing at the Junior Orange Bowl Basketball Classic. How great that two fabulous Gonzaga Sports teams are able to support one another far away from home! We hear there are big plans for New Years Eve….stay tuned!”
“Today the #Gswimdive guys had another fantastic day of training in North Miami, FL. This came after cheering on their fellow classmates to victory at the #JuniorOrangeBowlBasketballClassic the night before. After the game, the two teams gathered for a group photo. They were joined courtside by Gene Fleming, Class of 1939, who clearly held his own with all those youngsters! He may be hard to pick out, but he was the Eagle sporting the striped shirt. Go get ’em, Gene! Coach Josh kept it a secret that the tourney was going on. It was pretty exciting for the basketball players to suddenly have a cheering section. They weren’t aware of the #Gswimdive team’s pending arrival either. Pretty smooth move, Coach!
In other photos below, we have shots from the hotel lobby where they were preparing to head over to FIU for practice. Their high class facilities are unbelievable. The pool is set up for long course in the morning and short course (below) at night, a perfect blend of training. The divers had some wind to contend with, but seriously, who wouldn’t rather be in North Miami than in DC in late December? Below, diver Nate Blomquist works on his style. The last two pics are of the team preparing to head out on the town with an excursion to Miami. Tomorrow will be the half way point of the trip. Lucky for our boys, the weather is supposed to be pretty good right up until they’re supposed to come home. With highs in the low 80’s, and low humidity, it can’t be beat!”
