The Gonzaga Swimmin’ Eagles captured the WMPSSDL Relay Carnival last Saturday to remain undefeated this season. Their 251 points beat a strong sprinting DeMatha team, which used that speed to take down GPrep by 2pts (218-216) for 2nd & 3rd place on the men’s side.
The Eagles dominated Landon Tuesday evening in the final dual of the semester, 121-59. With the win, Gonzaga remains undefeated with a 4-0 record. Two of those wins came against teams who’ve won Metros (GPrep) and the National Catholic Championships (Loyola Blakefield) in 2015. This bodes well for the Eagles during the 3 weeks in January & February when the major championships (National Catholics, WMPSSDLs & Metros), will be contested. Of his team’s performance vs Landon, Coach Josh Klotz said: “Heading into exams can be a slow time of year. The guys were able to over come the challenge and swam well tonight. Several championship cuts were achieved and things are looking great as we head into the hardest training portion of the season.”
Up next for the Eagles- exams & their service project. After that, nearly 20 of the team’s swimmers/divers will road trip to Miami over the Christmas holiday for their training trip at FIU.
In the first week back, the team will face St Albans and perennial rival Georgetown Prep in duals. Congratulations to everyone who competed in the win today! Good luck on your exams.
